Yoko Shoji, Ph.D,

Director
Dr. Shoji has been
involved in biomedical research for nearly 25 years. She served as adjunct
professor at St. Marianna University School of Medicine in Japan where she
studied IgE rheumatoid factors in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Dr.
Shoji developed an interest in therapeutic oligonucleotides during her
postdoctoral training in Dr. Juliano’s laboratory at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Shoji was involved in developing a novel
oligonucleotide carrier that could be effectively cleaved by HIV protease
both in vitro and in HIV-infected cells. Dr. Shoji’s publication record
is extensive, focused mainly in the development and delivery of nucleic
acid-based medicines.
