ABOUT
FOLIGO
One hundred and eighty thousand women suffer from
ovarian cancer in the United States alone. Most ovarian malignancies
are epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and diagnosed at an advanced
stage of disease where the cancer has spread from the ovaries to
other pelvic and abdominal organs. Primary EOC treatment in the
US involves surgical removal of palpable tumors followed by combination
chemotherapy. While most women achieve clinical remission with standard
treatment, approximately 80% of all late-stage EOC recurs and is
untreatable. New treatments are imperative to improve the response
and survival outcome for women diagnosed with late-stage EOC. FOLIGO
is responding to this need.
The Company’s lead compound, FOLIGO 001, is designed to inhibit
the protein production of a cancer-promoting gene that is present
in EOC and many other types of cancers, but is absent from almost
all normal tissues. FOLIGO 001 will be utilized initially for the
treatment of EOC. Foligo’s aim is to enable classical chemotherapy
to work more efficiently by making target cancer cells more vulnerable
to chemotherapeutics. This increases survival while decreasing negative
side effects in patients.
