Improving treatment options and survival outcomes for ovarian cancer patients through molecular medicines and diagnostics

Ovarian cancer is an incurable disease for the vast majority of sufferers. Most women who are diagnosed with the disease are discovered at late stage, when the cancer has spread beyond the ovaries to other organs in the abdomen. Five-year survival rates for late-stage cancer are unacceptably low (5-35%). In contrast, patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer at stage I have a 93% chance of 5 year survival. FOLIGO Therapeutics, Inc. is therefore working on both diagnostics and therapeutics that will drastically improve survival rates for women who suffer from this disease.

FOLIGO’s aim is to: 1) achieve early diagnosis such that the chance of a woman’s survival from ovarian cancer increases;  2) improve patient quality of life by providing far less toxic therapies than currently is provided to patients, 3) disseminate therapies that are significantly more cost effective to produce through the cost savings offered by DNA technologies; and 4) achieve improved survival statistics and quality of life for ovarian cancer patients while also reducing cost burdens to this segment of the health care system.
